How do I say goodbye?
Working through grief is a process.
Grief and loss aren’t always about losing someone we love to death. Loss comes in a lot of forms. Loss of a relationship. Change – both “good” and “bad.” Loss of a pet. Each loss comes with its own challenges and emotions.
There’s no specific formula.
And your reactions aren’t always constant. Sometimes, grief washes over you in waves. You feel fine and then you feel numb.
Or, you feel okay; but then sadness takes over. Everything seems the same, but something is missing.
You try to do the things that you were doing before – even just the day before, but it seems surreal. Like you’re watching someone else live your life. Like a movie, but with less connection.
Loss makes you feel you might be more than a little nuts. You feel angry – perhaps at everyone and everything. You’re easily frustrated.
You want to bargain your way out of your feelings, but what does that even mean? You’ve been told that it will pass, but when? This feels all consuming. So overwhelming.
Shouldn’t I be over this already?
It’s complicated to learn to live without someone or to move on from change.
You’re still here and functioning but everything feels different.
Not always bad, but certainly unfamiliar. And then everyone experiences loss in their own way.
And it can be different depending on the type of loss.
Take your time.
Grieving is an intensely personal experience, and there’s no right or wrong way to go about it.
The only certain thing about grief is that eventually we’ll all go through it.
You don’t have to go through it alone.
Your future is bright.
